With today’s online security threats, websites need to ensure the visitors of their pages are protected by enabling HTTPS security. A free SSL certificate is installed automatically when you order hosting from Farmer Host or add an add-on domain to your cPanel.
Once an SSL certificate is installed on your domain, you then need to force browsers to use the secure HTTPS URL. This can either be accomplished with the help of a WordPress plugin , which is recommended for any WordPress installation, or by manually editing your website’s.htaccess file(s). Refer to our Knowledge Base articles for steps.
Note that if your website contains multiple WordPress installations or sub-domains, you will need to perform the steps on each of them. If you need help, or contact us or order consultation and FarmerHost will happily help configure your website to use SSL.
SSL protects the information in transit, allowing a website to be accessed over HTTPS. The data is sent encrypted between visitors and web servers. Forcing the secure URL to be loaded helps secure data transmission, gives visitors greater confidence that your website is safe to visit, and boostss site ranking in search engines like Google.
Having an HTTPS WordPress website does not mean the website is protected against website attacks and hacks. It is one important piece of the website security puzzle.
